Annual leave

We offer a generous annual leave allowance, for this role the allowance is 34 days in addition to bank holidays.
We can also offer additional paid leave to employees who do unpaid work within the community, such as acting as a school governor. In addition we support paid time off for compassionate leave, IVF treatment, blood donation and training, study and exam leave.

Mobile and flexible working

The basic working week is 37 hours. 

We are proud of our Mobile and Flexible Working policy. It means that people working in suitable jobs are provided with the technology to work from a range of locations (including home) as well as their main office base. This helps improve their work-life balance, free up more time to spend with customers, and reduce travelling time and costs.

We are currently consulting with staff about workstyles for the future to maximise the use of the positive opportunities that that have emerged over the past year. As part of this we are promoting more green travel options for staff and maximising the use of technology e.g. more online, virtual meetings and training.

Salary

This role attracts a salary of up to £165,000.

Pension scheme

We offer membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme The scheme is a contributory pension scheme into which you pay a percentage of your salary whilst the council makes a significant additional contribution. This offers excellent benefits at retirement and a death in service grant.

We also offer a shared cost Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) option. This is operated using a salary sacrifice arrangement so you benefit from savings on National Insurance as well as tax relief so you increase your take home pay compared to paying AVCs the standard way.

Relocation scheme

A relocation package is available for this role up to £8,000.

Parental leave and pay

We offer occupational maternity/adoption pay for up to 18 weeks, in addition to statutory parental leave and payments which can be shared between parents if they wish. Fathers or partners can take up to two weeks paid paternity leave and we also ensure that employees are able take statutory unpaid parental leave on request. In addition we offer maternity support leave, time off for supporting a pregnant women to antenatal clinics and parental bereavement leave.

Travel Support

We offer season ticket loans, reduced parking season tickets for those not eligible for parking as well as a cycle scheme, car club, car sharing and pool bikes.

Learning and development

We take the development of our employees seriously and offer a range of training opportunities in-house, both in the classroom, virtual classroom and through on-line learning. As part of our workforce strategy which is currently being refreshed we are looking at a range of learning and development opportunities to ensure we develop our leaders of the future including coaching and mentoring, access to senior leadership and professional qualifications and have a training and qualifications policy to support this which allows for study and exam leave. We are also particularly proud of our record on appointing and training apprentices. We offer a range of apprenticeships including project management, ILM 3 and 5, Senior Leadership to name a few. Currently we are working with 18 providers for 24 programmes and have enrolled 257 people on to an apprenticeship.

Health and wellbeing

We offer a range of services to support staff, access to an employee assistance programme, occupational health advice and a range of public health initiatives, and access to confidential counselling where needed. We pay sick pay, based on length of service, to help support employees when they are not well enough to work. Frontline workers are also offered flu vaccinations in the autumn. We always promote positive health and wellbeing and currently we are taking part in the Buddy Boost Challenge to promote 26 mins of exercise for 26 days in April.

Staff discounts

Staff are able to pay a discounted rate at some local leisure centres. Local retailers are keen to have the business of council employees, and they offer discounts at a wide range of outlets, including restaurants, garages, dry cleaners and hair dressers, among others.
